Urgent appointments

To request an urgent appointment for today or tomorrow (Monday to Friday) during opening times:

We will use your answers to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or healthcare professional to help you.

Routine appointments

To request a routine appointment in advance during opening times:

Chaperones

If you should require an examination during your consultation with the doctor, you can request a chaperone, such as the practice nurse.

Telephone advice

The doctors can offer advice where appropriate and the reception staff will take your contact details and brief information so that it can be passed to the most appropriate person who will call you back, though please be aware that this can sometimes take a couple of days.

Medicines order line

Patients can now order their repeat prescriptions using the Dedicated NHS Medicines Order Line on 01246 588860, 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Extended access service

Ripley Medical Centre is working with a group of other practices to provide extra services.

We offer appointments for you weekday evenings and on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

We offer appointments with GPs, advanced nurse practitioners and practice nurses.

If you would like an evening appointment or a weekend appointment with a doctor or a nurse, you will need to arrange this by booking an appointment.

These appointments are pre-bookable only. You will not be able to see a clinician without and appointment.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

Please let us know if you are unable to keep an appointment for any reason. Appointments can be reallocated even at late notice.

To cancel your appointment:

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

Requests for home visits, except in emergencies, should be received by 10am. You can request a home visit by calling the surgery.

Please make every effort to attend the surgery, as home visits are very time consuming. Due to the doctor’s practice commitments, you may not be visited until much later in the day.

The receptionist you speak to may ask for some information about the nature of the problem and this will be passed to the duty GP/nurse who may in turn contact you to discuss the problem and give immediate advice if that is deemed appropriate.

Visits are restricted to patients who are genuinely housebound, including patients in nursing homes or those being provided with ‘end of life’ care.
